Verb. kvīða ‘sich ängstigen”, kvīða f. “ a trembling, quaking, shaking, terror, anxiety, fear, dread, alarm “, kvīði m. ds.; O.E. cwīðan, schw. Verb. “ wail, bemoan “, O.S. quīðian “lament”; hieran remind formal Lith. gíedu and gíestu, giedóti ‘sing, crow “, etc., die to the only in den Satem-Sprachen belegten root *gēi- ‘sing” belong (see there); is the not zusammenstimmenden meaning because of dubious. Maybe Alb. kujë “wailing”, kujtim “memory (of the dead?)”, kujtoj “remember”
